Mira Costa College is one of the community colleges in Oceanside, California that has taken initiative to prepare online courses that can help teachers and students to use online facility for creating, learning, and managing online courses, tests, and student information. Named as Blackboard Mira Costa resource, the online resource requires registration and login ID before one can use it.

Course has been primarily designed so that students and teacher both can benefit from it. Blackboard courses include many online modules. Students can go through an online course, and after finishing the course appear in an online test. They receive different grades depending upon the mark they secure in the test. Online course have helped the college students to give more time to activities they are interested in rather than be present in the classroom. It has also helped students to get accustomed to online learning that helps when they join a University program.

To access the black board programs, an authentication (in the form of log id and password) needs to be created for login. Students and teachers can apply for the authentication by submitting a Request form at the Administrative department of the college. Once the request is processed, the login details are e-mailed to users. Users can then use the same login and password to sign in. As with any online module, it may take some time for users to get use to the online Black Board. A separate Wiki help link is provided that is accessible after log in. The wiki page describes how to use the features on the Black Board module. The online module has dot edu domain rather than dot com as it is primarily an education site.

Blackboard academic suite includes a range of courses that include Literature, History and Culture, Writing, Business, Education, Psychology, Business, Operations Management, Nursing, and Science and Technology. Apart from this, courses are available in other disciples too. Black Board course also includes courses on Social Issues, Education, Instructional Design, Communication, Art History, and Art. Other than courses, the Grade Center application available in Black Board lets teachers mark their students on their respective performances in different courses. Grade center includes online evaluation sheets on which teachers can save the marks and create performance reports.

Students and Teachers response to the Blackboard Mira Costa module has been found to be encouraging. It has led to further integration of the online course module into the main education curriculum. Apart from Teachers, students too can contribute to the module by developing courses with the help of their teachers.
